ARLINGTON, Texas – Texas Southern dropped its SWAC Bowling Tournament opener by a 2-0 margin to Alabama State on Friday.
Using the Mega Match format, which consists of a team match, baker total pinfall and best-of-seven baker match, ASU won the five-person match 930-808. In Baker play, ASU clinched the match with a 930-843 decision to move on to the third round.
Maria Williams led TSU with a 205 followed by Zaniya McClain (160) and Xiani Carpenter (160).
TSU will face Southern at 9 a.m. on Saturday in the consolation bracket as they'll need to win twice on Saturday to advance to Sunday's play.
