• The Texas Southern women's basketball team is back in action for a conference home match-up against Alcorn State Thursday, Feb. 26 at 5 pm.
•Texas Southern and Alcorn State have met regularly over the past 14 seasons, with the Tigers holding a 19–10 advantage in the all‑time series dating back to 2012. TSU controlled the matchup for much of the last decade, highlighted by an 11‑game win streak from 2013–18 and a dominant 105–70 victory in 2020, the largest margin in the series. The recent trend has shifted, however, with Alcorn winning the last three meetings, including the most recent matchup on Jan. 17, 2026, in Lorman. TSU has been strong at home in the series (12–2), while the road meetings have been more evenly split (7–7).
• Head Coach Vernette Skeete enters her fourth season at TSU. Last year, she guided the Tigers to a 14–4 SWAC record, finishing tied for second place and reaching the SWAC Tournament semifinals, a dramatic turnaround from her first two seasons (9–49 overall).
• Under Skeete, TSU earned its first‑ever postseason appearance, hosting a historic WNIT game at TSU and advancing to the second round before falling to Louisiana Tech.
• Taliyah Logwood leading the Tiger offense, averaging 13.6 points and 5.2 rebounds Logwood has earned SWAC newcomer of the week twice this season, as well as SWAC player of the week.
•Aaliyah Henderson, the lone returning letterwinner, is averaging 7.7 points and 3.3 rebounds per game, while Jordyn Marshall adds 7.2 points per contest and Lauren Perry contributes 6.2 points off the bench.
•Texas Southern continues to establish itself as one of the most productive and balanced teams in the Southwestern Athletic Conference, entering the week ranked No. 1 in the league in four major statistical categories. The Tigers are also leading the SWAC in bench points per game (27.4) and rebounds per game (40.3), reinforcing their dominance on the glass on both ends of the floor. Offensively, TSU tops the conference in scoring offense (67.1) while also leading the league in three‑point attempts per game (21.9).
• Alcorn State is led by Head Coach Nate Kilbert, who is now in his sixth season guiding the Lady Braves. During his tenure, Kilbert has established the program as a consistent contender, reaching the SWAC Championship Game twice in his first five years.
• Alcorn State's offense is led by Nakia Cheatham, who anchors the Lady Braves with 12.6 points per game. Kiarra Henderson follows as the team's second‑leading scorer at 9.8 points per game. Maya Hunkin‑Claytor is adding 8.3 points per game.
