• The Texas Southern women's basketball team is back in action for a conference home match up against Jackson State Saturday Feb. 28 at 2 pm.
•Texas Southern enters its matchup with Grambling State holding a 20–12 series lead dating back to their first meeting in 2013, a 91–64 TSU victory. The Tigers have won five of the last ten matchups, including the most recent contest on Jan. 1, 2026, a tight 61–58 road win in Grambling. TSU's longest run of dominance in the series came with a nine‑game win streak from 2013–2016, highlighted by their largest margin of victory, a 74–33 win on Jan. 17, 2015. Grambling's strongest stretch was a four‑game streak from 2018–2019. Overall, TSU has been competitive both home and away, holding an 8–5 record at home and 9–6 record on the road, with the closest win coming by a single point (59–58 on Feb. 11, 2013).
• Head Coach Vernette Skeete enters her fourth season at TSU. Last year, she guided the Tigers to a 14–4 SWAC record, finishing tied for second place and reaching the SWAC Tournament semifinals, a dramatic turnaround from her first two seasons (9–49 overall).
• Under Skeete, TSU earned its first‑ever postseason appearance, hosting a historic WNIT game at TSU and advancing to the second round before falling to Louisiana Tech.
• Taliyah Logwood leading the Tiger offense, averaging 13.6 points and 5.2 reboundsLogwood has earned SWAC newcomer of the week twice this season as well as playerof the week.
•Aaliyah Henderson, the lone returning letterwinner, is averaging 7.7 points and 3.3 Rebounds per game, while Jordyn Marshall adds 7.2 points per contest and Lauren Perry contributes 6.2 points off the bench.
•Texas Southern continues to establish itself as one of the most productive and balanced teams in the Southwestern Athletic Conference, entering the week ranked No. 1 In the league in four major statistical categories. The Tigers' are also leading the SWAC in bench points per game (27.4) and rebounds per game (40.3), reinforcing their dominance on the glass on both ends of the floor. Offensively, TSU tops the conference in scoring offense (67.1) while also leading the league in three‑point attempts per game (21.9)
•Jackson State is led by Margaret Richards, who was named the program's seventh head coach ahead of the 2024–25 season. In her first year at the helm, Richards guided JSU to a 16–15 overall record and a 13–5 mark in SWAC play, finishing fourth in the league. Under her leadership, Taleah Dilworth earned SWAC Player of the Year, Newcomer of the Year, and First‑Team All‑SWAC honors, while Zoe Cooper was selected to the 2025 HBCU All‑Star Team.
