HOUSTON — Texas Southern leaned on senior goalkeeper Alessandra Bastidas to deliver a gritty defensive performance in Sunday night's 0-0 draw against Incarnate Word at Durley Stadium.
Bastidas recorded 11 saves on the night. Her poise between the posts kept UIW off the scoreboard and earned TSU its second shutout of the season.
The Tigers (1-4-2) absorbed heavy pressure throughout the match, with defenders Akiya Saine and Gabriela Gonzalez stepping up to disrupt UIW's attack. Midfielders Bailey Buckner and Kamara Bradley contributed key stops and helped TSU transition out of its defensive third.
Savannah Muldrew and Clara Dotigny each registered shots on goal, with Muldrew nearly breaking through in the 65th minute before UIW's keeper made the stop. TSU earned three corner kicks and drew four offsides.
Texas Southern continues non-conference play at home on Thursday, Sept. 11, with a 6 p.m. kickoff against Fresno State.
