Texas Southern Falls 81–73 at UT Arlington Despite Strong Start

ARLINGTON, Texas — Texas Southern opened with swagger and energy, but a late surge from UT Arlington proved too much to overcome as the Tigers dropped an 81–73 road decision Wednesday night inside the College Park Center.

TSU came out firing, using a 9–0 run to build an early 9–1 advantage and later taking a 41–36 lead into halftime after controlling the second quarter with efficient shooting and aggressive play in transition.

Aaliyah Henderson powered the Tigers on both ends, finishing with 21 points on 10‑for‑14 shooting while adding four assists and four steals. Taliyah Logwood added 20 points, attacking the rim consistently and fueling TSU's transition game. Maci Quiller chipped in 12 points, including a pair of key three‑pointers in the opening half.

TSU outscored UTA 44–30 in the paint and generated 22 fast‑break points, using pressure defense to force momentum‑shifting turnovers throughout the night. However, UT Arlington's ability to capitalize on miscues ultimately swung the game. The Lady Mavs scored 34 points off 20 TSU turnovers and grabbed 16 offensive rebounds, converting them into 21 second‑chance points.

UT Arlington was led by Kali Haizlip's career‑high 17 points, while Mila Reynolds added 16 and Kira Reynolds posted a double‑double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. The Lady Mavs used a decisive 10–0 run midway through the third quarter to erase TSU's eight‑point lead and seize control entering the fourth.

Despite the setback, TSU showed depth and grit, with Fenishka Bertho pulling down 10 rebounds and providing interior defensive presence. The Tigers shot a solid 46 percent from the field but struggled from the free‑throw line, finishing 6‑of‑15.

Texas Southern returns to action as non‑conference play continues in Nashville, Tenn. when they face Vanderbilt on December 20 at 12 pm.
