COMMERCE, Texas — Texas Southern women's basketball showed grit but couldn't overcome a slow start, falling 76-60 to East Texas A&M on Monday morning.
The Lady Tigers trailed by as many as 19 in the third quarter, but clawed back with an 8-0 run sparked by guard Daeja Holmes. Holmes led TSU with 22 points on 9-of-18 shooting, including two 3-pointers, and added four assists.
Aaliyah Henderson was a force, finishing with 16 points and seven rebounds while going 7-for-8 from the free-throw line. Maci Quiller chipped in 11 points and six boards.
TSU struggled early in the first quarter, going into halftime down 38-22. The Tigers roared back in the third, hitting 64.7% from the field and outscoring the Lions 24-18, but East Texas A&M answered in the fourth to seal the win.
Tiani Ellison paced the Lions with 21 points and eight rebounds, while Cora Horvath added 21 points and five assists. ETAMU dominated points off turnovers (20-9) and controlled the paint.
The Lady Tigers head to Arlington, Texas, to face the University of Texas-Arlington on Wednesday at 6 pm.
