Volleyball Splits Road Trip After Dropping Intense Match At Southern

BATON ROUGE, La. – Southern claimed a tight volleyball contest by a 3-1 margin Monday night over TSU.
 
The first set was intense as there were 11 ties throughout the set. TSU led 22-20 but SU tied it up at 22-all and moved ahead 23-22. Trinidie Davis' kill knotted the set at 23-all but a TSU service error and SU kill moved the Jaguars ahead 25-23.
 
TSU opened set two with a 5-1 lead but SU tied it at 6-all. Gracie Hill's four kills sparked an 11-5 TSU run as they closed out set two ahead 25-19.
 
Set three saw four ties early on as SU created separation after outscoring TSU 12-7 to lead 18-13. Keldri Young's three kills would lead a 9-5 TSU run as the Tigers trailed 23-22. A TSU attack error moved the ball back to SU but a service error drew TSU to within 24-23 before an SU kill ended the match 25-23 in favor of the Jaguars.
 
There were 10 ties to open set four as it was tied at 17-all but SU went on an 8-3 run to close out the match and even the season series.
 
Gracie Hill led TSU with 16 kills followed by Keldri Young's 11. Taryn Stafford had a team-high four blocks while Ava Ray finished with 20 assists. Angelika Rusin led TSU defensively with 18 digs.
 
TSU is back in action on Sunday at 3 p.m. against Prairie View A&M inside the H&PE Arena.
