Lady Tigers clinch Regular Season Title

HOUSTON- The Lady Tigers of Texas Southern University captured their 14^th win in a row beating the Alcorn State Lady Braves 73-55 Thursday night at the HPE Arena. 

Alexus Johnson had a game and career high 28 points along with a game high 11 rebounds while shooting 7-of-13 from the floor and a perfect 12-of -12 from the free throw line. 

Johnson was aided by SWAC player of the week Diamonisha Sophus, whose 18 points kept the Lady Braves at bay while Johnson battled foul trouble throughout the early portion of the second half. 

The Lady Tigers played an inspired game as they led from start to finish.  TSU controlled the glass, holding the edge in rebounds 39 to 26.  The Lady Tigers reserves outscored Alcorn State's bench 13 to 4.

Alcorn State was led in scoring by Norianna Haynes who tallied 24 points on the night.  TSU held Alcorn State to 37 percent shooting and scored 22 points off turnovers. 

Texas Southern took a 40-24 lead into the break and came out in the second half and cruised to the win.  TSU shot 48 percent from the field, and 38 percent from behind the 3-point line.  

The win clinches a share of the 2014-15 Southwestern Athletic Conference regular season title for the Lady Tigers who have a conference record of 16-1. 

TSU carries their 14-game winning streak into the season finale showdown Saturday afternoon with the second place Southern University Lady Jaguars, who carry a 13-game winning streak of their own into the match.
