MONTGOMERY. Ala. -Â Texas Southern captured their 12th straight win as they defeated Alabama State 64-51 at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome Saturday afternoon.Â
The Lady Tigers improved to 17-9 overall and 14-1 in the SWAC with the victory, while Alabama State fell to 12-13 overall and 8-7 in the SWAC.
Texas Southern caught the Lady Hornets defense in a daze early as they erupted to a 21-10 lead in the first half. ASU battled back with an aggressive 13-2 run over the next 8 minutes tying the contest at 23-23. TSU would then outscore ASU 4-2 in the final three minutes to take a 27-25 lead into halftime.Â
TSU managed to have two players to finish in double figures led by a game-high 21 points from Diamonisha Sophus and a 16 points, 13 rebounds performance from Alexus Johnson.
With Texas Southern applying defensive pressure the Lady Hornets struggled to find a rhythm on the offensive side of the ball throughout the game. ASU managed to shoot just 8-30 (26.7 percent) in the first half and shot 17-52 (32.7 percent) for the entire game.Â
