HOUSTON- Alexis Johnson had a career high 27 points and a team high nine rebounds as the Lady Tigers of Texas Southern University stretched their current winning streak to ten, dominating the visiting Arkansas-Pine Bluff Lady Lions 73-58 Saturday afternoon in front of the home crowd at the HPE Arena.Â
With the win the Lady Tigers remain atop the SWAC with a league best 12-1 conference record.
Texas Southern put the game out of reach early, jumping out to a 25-6 lead midway through the first half on a jumper by Alexis Johnson.Â
Johnson's 21 first half points would pace the Lady Tighes throughout the first half as they would take a 43-18 lead into intermission.
The second half saw Texas Southern stretch their lead to a game high 29 points on a basket by point guard Diamonisha Sophus. It was the biggest lead of the night for the Lady Tigers.Â
Arkansas-Pine Bluff attempted to get back into the game in the second half cutting the lead to 14 but could never get within striking distance.
The Lady Tiger Brianna Sidney chipped in with 16 points while shooting 6-of-7 from the field and 2-of 3 from beyond the arch. The Lady Lions of Arkansas-Pine Bluff were led in scoring by Shami Goodman who scored 11 points on 4-of-8 shooting.Â
Next up for the Lady Tigers is a rematch with Mississippi Valley State on Monday at the HPE Arena.
