Timothy Waller

Tim Waller joined the Texas Southern University men's basketball staff prior to the start of the 2012-13 season.

A well-respected administrator and former head coach, Waller handles team travel arrangements, scheduling, budgeting and other duties as assigned for the Tigers basketball program. He also served as the supervisor for the men's basketball locker room renovation project that concluded in January of 2013.

On the court, Waller was a successful college coach for over 25 years. He has been a part of 11 Regular Season or Conference Tournament Championships at five NCAA Division I schools.

Prior to arriving at TSU Waller worked with the UAB men's basketball program after a two-year stint as head coach at Stillman College. Prior to that, Waller spent three seasons (2003-06) as director of basketball operations at Nebraska, where he was part of a staff that made two postseason appearances during his term there.

Waller arrived in Lincoln, Neb. after serving five years at Knoxville College in Knoxville, Tenn., where he was the men's basketball coach (1998-03). In addition to coaching at Knoxville Waller also held the title of Vice President of Student Affairs. While at Knoxville College, his teams tallied a 97-61 record over five seasons, including a school record for wins and winning percentage with a 23-8 record in 2001-02.

Additionally, Knoxville defeated a total of six top ten ranked teams including the #1 ranked NAIA Division I team in consecutive weeks (Mountain State and Lee Colleges). Highlights of his coaching career include recruiting and developing several notable NBA players including Kevin Duckworth and Ron Harper.

Waller served as regional director of the Black Coaches Association (1988-90) and Chairman of the Assistant Coaches Committee (1989-90) of the National Association of Basketball Coaches. He also served five years overall (1986-91) on the committee.

Previously Waller was the associate head coach at Idaho State (1997-98) and an assistant coach at Central Michigan (1996-97), Alabama State (1995-96) and Howard University (1991-95). He began his coaching career at Elmhurst College (1978-79), before moving to Western Michigan (1979-82), Eastern Illinois (1982-84) and then Miami (Ohio) (1984-91).

A native of Detroit, Waller earned a bachelor's degree in communications from Western Michigan in 1979.

He and his wife, Camille, were married in 2005 and their family includes sons Joel, Dale and Nate and daughters Kellie and Camille.
