Houston native and former professional pitcher Aaron Ford enters his first season on the Texas Southern University baseball coaching staff, serving as the Tigers’ Head Assistant Coach and Pitching Coach. Ford brings professional experience, elite collegiate credentials, and a development-driven approach that aligns with TSU’s mission of elevating its baseball profile on the national stage.
Ford was selected by the New York Mets in the 2017 MLB Draft and advanced through the organization as a high-impact left-handed reliever. Across 33 appearances in the Mets’ minor league system, he posted a 3.02 ERA, 1.07 WHIP, and 65 strikeouts in 47.2 innings, showcasing swing-and-miss stuff and late-game competitiveness. In 2018, Ford earned BC Powder Relief Pitcher of the Month honors with the Columbia Fireflies after allowing no walks and no home runs in seven outings.
Before turning pro, Ford was one of the most dominant pitchers in the NAIA ranks. In his final season at Tennessee Wesleyan, he finished with a 1.94 ERA, 101 strikeouts, and only 12 walks over 74.1 innings. His collegiate career featured several standout performances, including a complete-game three-hit shutout with 18 strikeouts and zero walks against nationally ranked Milligan.
Ford’s journey also includes high-level development stops at San Jacinto College, where he threw two no-hitters and a perfect game, earning a path to Auburn before completing his collegiate career at Tennessee Wesleyan. His fastball-breaking ball-changeup profile—featuring a fastball up to 95 mph and two 75-grade offspeed pitches—now shapes his coaching emphasis on direction, timing, and repeatable mechanics.
Driven by a commitment to impact his community through baseball, Ford enters TSU focused on building a pitching staff known for confidence, execution, and competitiveness. His vision extends beyond the mound: helping Texas Southern strengthen its identity, elevate its recruiting footprint, and position its student-athletes for success on and off the field.
