Texas Southern head coach Cris Dishman announced the signing of 25 student-athletes during Wednesday's National Signing Day. Along with the early signees in December, a total of 31 newcomers will join the TSU football team for the upcoming season.
Â
The staff sought both immediate experience while emphasizing the future as 18 student-athletes came from the transfer portal or junior college ranks. A total of 13 student-athletes are incoming freshmen as several are already enrolled and will participate in spring football drills starting in March. Several of the newcomers had highly decorated high school careers along with NFL pedigrees while several gained extensive experience across all levels of football which should create additional competition across the board with the returning players.
Â
Twelve states are represented as Texas remains the foundation with 14 signees. The state of California has four while the states of Louisiana, Mississippi and Florida have two each. The states of Georgia, Minnesota, Nevada, Michigan, Virginia, Missouri and New York are represented with one each.
Â
The staff went heavy on secondary help as a total of seven players were added to the unit. The defensive and offensive lines were also a huge priority during the recruiting period as six student-athletes were added to each side of the ball. The wide receiver room was restocked with the addition of four signees along with two linebackers. The staff also recruited a running back, placekicker and tight end as every positional need was addressed.
Â
Twenty-one of the team's signees are already on campus and will participate during spring drills and offseason conditioning sessions. The remaining 10 will join the team prior to the start of the first summer session in May.
Â
Spring drills kick off March 2 as the annual spring game/junior day will take place on April 11 inside Durley Stadium. The upcoming football schedule for the 2026 season will be released shortly as this marks the first season FCS teams have the option to play 12 regular season games without any restrictions.
