Tigers Head To The Sunshine State For Contest At Florida Atlantic

• Texas Southern returns to action on the road in Boca Raton, Fla. as they'll host Florida Atlantic in a non-conference match-up Saturday at 5 p.m.

• Saturday's contest will feature live audio on KTSU 90.9 FM and will be shown live on ESPN+.

• TSU is 0-23 all-time when playing up a division as an FCS (formerly Division I-AA) member. TSU's first-ever FBS (formerly I-A) opponent was in 1992 when they played Nevada. TSU has played three current members of the American Conference in UTSA, Rice and North Texas and is scheduled to play Tulsa in 2027.

• FAU enters Saturday's game with a 3-1 mark and averages 30 points a game and 415.3 yards per contest. Quarterback Caden Veltcamp averages 294.8 yards per game and ranks second in the American. FAU also has two receivers (Kelby Valsin / Easton Messer) rank 3-4 in yards per game.

• TSU features a pair of former FAU players in cornerbacks MJ Hinson and Jaheim Miller.

• FAU is 6-1 all-time against the SWAC with games against Florida A&M (2-0) and Bethune-Cookman (4-1).

• TSU returns to the state of Florida for the first time since 2024 when they played Florida A&M. Despite being in Texas, TSU has history in Florida with games against Florida A&M, Bethune-Cookman and UCF. TSU has played games in Jacksonville, Orlando and Daytona Beach.

• Since 2011, TSU football is 14-57 on the road with a winning road mark (3-2) in 2025.

• TSU's Cam'Ron McCoy is coming off a season-high 319-yard, two touchdown performance at Alcorn State while Daveon Walker caught seven passes for 110 yards. Linebacker Donovan Jones had a career-best 15 tackles.

• A trio of TSU offensive starters earned 2026 Preseason All-SWAC Second Team honors in junior tight end Kordell Rodgers, sophomore offensive lineman Jayden Daniels and redshirt junior wideout Roriyon Richardson.

• Despite coming off a winning season for the first time since 2000, TSU was picked to finish fourth in the SWAC West by head coaches and sports information directors in the annual preseason poll. TSU returns six offensive starters and three on defense.

• The Tigers open the season with a new defensive coordinator in Scott Vestal.

• This marks the second consecutive year TSU will have six home contests as they played on Week 0 for the first time since 2017. Unlike last year, the caveat to this year's schedule is that TSU will play in multiple locations in the Houston area due to scheduling conflicts with its primary stadium in Shell Energy. TSU will play five games inside Aldine ISD's Thorne Stadium (19 miles from campus) and one at Reliant Stadium (7 miles).

• Cris Dishman is the 19th head coach in the history of Texas Southern Football. Faced with a tough task due to the program's historical nature (29 winning seasons in 79 years of existence), Dishman has set out to reverse the trend after posting a winning record following his second season.
