Soccer Falls In Season Opener

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Texas Southern dropped its 2025 regular season debut on the road at the University of New Mexico on Thursday night.

The Lobos scored their goal seven minutes in and added another two minutes later for an early 2-0 lead. TSU would settle down as Jaycelyn Russ recorded the team's first official shot of the season in the ninth minute but the Lobos would counter with its third goal of the half during the 12^th minute to lead 3-0.

TSU would have opportunities throughout the half to score as Liz Alberto and Savannah Muldrew both had shot attempts. However, UNM tacked on three more goals en route to a 6-0 halftime lead.

After a tough first half and an early goal to begin the second half by UNM, the TSU defense settled down as they only allowed one goal the remainder of the second half as goalie Alessandra Bastidas recorded eight saves in the half.
TSU is back in action on Sunday as they'll face UTEP at 7 p.m.
