Softball Falls In Saturday Doubleheader

Texas Southern softball dropped a Saturday doubleheader to Prairie View A&M at Memorial Park.

In between both games, TSU honored a pair of seniors in Marissa Martinez and Madison Battle.

PRAIRIE VIEW A&M 8, TSU 1
Prairie View A&M had a big second inning and rode the momentum from that point for an 8-1 win the opener.

TSU couldn't capitalize with two runners on in the first and a critical one-out error by TSU in the second came back to haunt them as it led to a three-run homer for a 3-0 lead. Another fielding error in the fourth gave PVAMU a 4-0 lead as TSU scored a run in the bottom half on Madison Battle's RBI single to score Destiny Menchaca.

PVAMU was aided by several TSU errors in over the final two innings to pad its lead as TSU couldn't recover.

PRAIRIE VIEW A&M 7, TSU 3
TSU struggled defensively in game two as Prairie View A&M took advantage for a 7-3 win.

Prairie View A&M doubled home the first two runs and took advantage of two TSU errors in the second for a 4-0 lead. TSU cut the lead in half during the bottom frame on Kylie Wilson's double and Marisa Perla's sac fly.

PVAMU added two runs in the third and TSU tacked on another in the bottom half to trail 6-3. The Tigers couldn't get over the hump as PVAMU's defense made several athletic defensive plays to prevent potential big innings down the stretch.

Wilson finished 2-for-4 at the plate with four strikeouts on the mound.

TSU is back in action on Friday at Alcorn State for a 3 p.m. start.
