Softball Splits Doubleheader At Alcorn State On Saturday

LORMAN, Miss. – Texas Southern split a softball doubleheader at Alcorn State on Saturday.

ALCORN STATE 1, TSU 0
Alcorn State scored in the final inning to claim a 1-0 defensive dual on Saturday.

With the game scoreless entering the sixth, TSU's Marissa Martinez had a one-out single followed by Lanay Carr's triple. However, Martinez was thrown out at home followed by a strikeout to end the inning.

TSU led the top of the seventh off with three consecutive walks to load the bases. ASU was forced to undergo a pitching change and got TSU to hit into two straight fielder's choices at home plate followed by a lineout. ASU would hit a one-out triple on the seventh and won the game on a sac fly.

Kylie Wilson finished 2-for-4 at the plate while also going the distance on the mound.

TSU 8, ALCORN STATE 7
TSU started out strong but fought back after losing its early lead en route to an 8-7 win in game two.

TSU jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the top of the first as Marisa Perla had a RBI single followed by DaNia Durr's RBI triple and Karisma Garcia's two-RBI double.

However, closed the gap to 4-3 in the second but Lanay Carr's leadoff solo homer in the third moved the score to 5-3. A three-error fourth inning by TSU led to Alcorn State claiming a 6-5 lead as the score remained the same until the sixth as Kadriana Mincey and Marisa Martinez drove in runs for a 7-6 margin.

Destiny Menchaca drew a bases loaded walk in the seventh to moved TSU ahead 8-6. The walk and run was huge as ASU scored with two outs in the bottom frame with the tying and go-ahead runs on base. TSU would persevere and hold on as ASU lined out to second for the final out.

Perla finished 2-for-4 with a run and RBI.
