HOUSTON — Texas Southern women's basketball opened the 2025–26 season with energy, edge and execution, defeating Wiley College 69–55 on Wednesday morning at the Health & Physical Education Arena.
The Lady Tigers wasted no time setting the tone, jumping out to a 25–8 lead in the first quarter behind a swarming defense and fast-paced offense. TSU forced 15 turnovers in the first half alone, converting them into 18 points and keeping the Wildcats on their heels.
Sophomore guard Taliyah Logwood led all scorers with 22 points and added 7 rebounds, 6 steals and 3 assists in a commanding two-way performance. Her veteran presence anchored a TSU squad that showed flashes of both grit and growth in its season debut.
Malaya LeSueur provided a spark off the bench with 13 points, while Ayanna Jackson added 8 points and 2 rebounds. The Lady Tigers' bench outscored Wiley's reserves 34–28, a testament to the team's depth and hustle.
TSU also won the battle on the boards, pulling down 52 rebounds to Wiley's 50, and held the Wildcats to just 29.7% shooting from the field. Despite a third-quarter push from Wiley that trimmed the lead to 12, the Lady Tigers responded with poise, holding the Wildcats to just 13 points in the final frame.
