Women's Basketball Defeats Southern After Big Comeback

Texas Southern women's basketball rallied to defeat Southern University 55-51 in a thriller on Saturday afternoon to open SWAC play undefeated.

Southern University had a strong start, leading 27-20 at halftime and extending their lead to 15 points in the third quarter. However, Texas Southern's defensive effort in the final quarter turned the game around as they opened SWAC play 2-0 for the first time since 2020 while defeating SU for the first time since 2022 .

The Lady Tigers were trailing 43-28 at the end of the third quarter but made a remarkable comeback in the fourth quarter as they went on a 20-4 run during the first 7:38 of the quarter. TSU opened the quarter perfect from the field 8-for-8 while limiting SU to 2-of-11 shooting from the field and forcing three turnovers during the run. Treasure Thompson scored five of the final six points for Texas Southern, securing the victory as TSU iced the game from the free throw line as they finished 6-of-8 from the charity stripe.
