Tigers Drop Tough Home Contest To UTEP Sunday Night

A first half penalty kick goal was the difference as UTEP squeezed out a 1-0 win over Texas Southern on Sunday night inside Durley Stadium.

Both teams came to play early as it was a physical contest from the opening whistle. Victoria Pucci would get off two early shot attempts for TSU while UTEP answered with three shots. TSU was whistled for a foul in the goalie box in the 19th minute and was awarded a penalty shot. UTEP's Eve Barry slipped the ball past the goalkeeper for the 1-0 lead as the score would remain the same entering the half.

TSU had several good looks at the goal throughout the second half but couldn't connect when the opportunities presented itself unfortunately. As the game came to a close, the intensity was turned up even higher and was felt from the stands to the field. TSU would control the action on UTEP's side of the field over the last 15 minutes as Jocelyn Musil and Clara Dotigny had late attempts but UTEP goalie Angelina Amparano recorded both saves.

Victoria Pucci led TSU with four shots followed by three from Jocelyn Musil. Alessandra Bastidas had four saves for TSU in the goal.

TSU is back in action at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
