Box Score PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – For the second straight game, TSU used a second-half surge to defeat Prairie View A&M and move on to the second round of the 2024 SWAC Tournament Thursday afternoon.
The Tigers once again set the tone in the first half as they totaled 13 shots but came up just short as they failed to connect on any despite several close looks. Similar to last Friday's match, it was typical nip-and-tuck rivalry action as both teams ended the half tied at 0-0.
Six minutes into the second half, a collective sigh of relief could be heard from the TSU sideline and fanbase as Victoria Pucci drove past the defender and shot the ball past the goalie for the 1-0 lead in the 51st minute.
The TSU defense, which features SWAC Defensive Player of the Year Alyssa Taylor, was up to its usual self as they kept PVAMU scoreless despite a few scares at the goal. With seven minutes left, Taylor's free kick was placed perfectly as Brianna Miles added an insurance goal with a header as TSU moved on the second round of the tournament.
TSU is back in action on Friday against Alabama A&M at 3 p.m. in semifinal action.
