Pair Of Runs Sends New Mexico Past Men's Basketball

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – A pair of runs in both halves was the difference as TSU dropped a 99-68 decision at New Mexico on Sunday.
 
New Mexico led 16-10 early in the first half but Kavion McClain's six consecutive points tied it at 16-all. The Lobos would regain the lead and led by as much as six (28-22) with 4:43 left but Zytarious Mortle's five points sparked a 7-1 surge which gave TSU a 31-29 lead with 2:27 left. However, the Tiges would miss their final six shots at the end of the half while the Lobos finished 3-of-5 to claim a 38-31 halftime lead.
 
The Lobos opened the second half on a 12-2 run for a 50-33 lead four minutes in. TSU would cut it to 14 on several occasions within the next few minutes but the Lobos put the game out of reach with another run midway through the half.
 
McClain led TSU with 15 points and six assists followed by 12 from Jaylen Wysinger and 10 from Zaire Hayes. Oumar Koureissi grabbed a team-best seven boards followed by five from Kenny Hunter.
 
TSU is back in action on Wednesday at 1 p.m. against Texas A&M-Kingsville at home.
