JACKSON, Miss. – TSU volleyball's two-game Mississippi swing wrapped up Monday night following a 3-0 loss at Jackson State.
A 7-0 run in the first set moved JSU ahead 13-7 as TSU would draw within 14-11 after a JSU error. However, a 7-1 run in favor of JSU turned the tide of the set en route to a 25-16 win.
Set two started out as a mirror image of set one as an 8-8 tie turned into a 13-8 JSU lead after a 5-0 run. JSU would push ahead 22-13 but TSU fought back defensively with four blocks to fuel a 6-1 run as they were down 23-19. But once again, JSU would regroup with the lead in hand and scored the final two points for a 25-19 win.
Once again, set three started out like sets one and two as TSU led 8-7 but five straight points by JSU sent the momentum back en route to a 12-7 lead. A 6-1 TSU surge gave them a 14-13 margin as they retook the momentum and jumped out to a 19-16 advantage. However, four TSU errors fueled a 9-1 JSU run as they closed out the match 25-20.
Gracie Hill and Keldri Young led TSU with eight kills followed by five blocks from Trinidie Davis. Ava Ray and Kennedi Walker had 11 and 10 assists, respectively while Angelika Rusin added 11 digs.
On Sunday, TSU began the trip with a 3-2 heartbreaker at Mississippi Valley State aa MVSU rallied back from a 2-1 deficit to win the final two sets.
Gracie Hill had 11 kills followed by 10 from Lauren Battle. Kourtni Collier had five blocks while Ava Ray finished with 17 assists. Ryan Henderson led TSU defensively with eight digs.
TSU travels to Pine Bluff, Ark. on Sunday, Oct. 13 and Grambling State on Oct. 14.
