• Texas Southern returns to action on Saturday as they'll host Grambling State at 6 p.m. inside Shell Energy Stadium.
• Texas Southern is looking to remain in the SWAC race hunt as they need to defeat Grambling State. TSU dropped a heartbreaker to Southern two weeks ago as both TSU and GSU have two SWAC losses.
• Saturday's contest will feature live audio on KTSU 90.9 FM and will be shown live on the SWAC Digital Network.
• For the second straight game TSU will face a former player as GSU safety Calvin Henderson spent three seasons at TSU.
• TSU closes out its four-game home stand which ran from Sept. 28-Oct. 26. TSU has yet to leave the state of Texas.
• Picked to finish third in the SWAC West, GSU is led by new head coach Mickey Joseph. GSU dropped its first game but rolled off three straight wins in non-conference before dropping a pair of SWAC West games to Prairie View A&M and Alcorn State by a combined total of four points. GSU defeated UAPB for homecoming last weekend for its first SWAC win of 2024.
• TSU had six players earn preseason All-SWAC honors as linebacker Jacob Williams earned first team honors while defensive end Michael Akins, offensive lineman Mehdi Torrence, linebacker Isaiah Bogerty, quarterback Jace Wilson and defensive back Javius Williams earned second team honors.
• TSU was picked to finish sixth in the SWAC West. The Tigers have to replace all-time leading rusher LaDarius Owens at running back as they return five starters on offense and eight on defense.
• GSU has won eight of the past 11 meetings over TSU. TSU last defeated GSU in Houston in 2022.
• TSU currently ranks fourth overall in total defense in the SWAC (333.8) but has struggled offensively as they rank 11th with 251.0 yards per game.
• Linebacker Jacob Williams is coming off a career season with 106 tackles and eight sacks. TSU has not had back-to-back 100-plus tacklers since linebacker Kevin Harris from 1988-90. Williams was TSU's first 100-plus tackler since 2004.
• Cris Dishman is the 18th head coach in the history of Texas Southern Football. Dishman inherits a tough task as the program has only had 28 winning seasons in 77 years of existence and hasn't recorded a winning season since 2000.
