Taniya Lawson led the Texas Southern women's basketball team in double figures, but it wasn't enough as TSU fell, 75-50 to Jackson State on Monday evening at the Lee E. Williams Athletics and Assembly Center.
The competition was tied at eight a piece, then Texas Southern (3-14 Overall, 2-4 SWAC) used a 7-0 run to take a 15-8 lead with 3:20 remaining in the first. Jackson State (10-6, 5-0) closed out the first quarter with a 5-0 run as TSU led 15-13.
TSU was outscored 23-6 in the second quarter as they were limited to 2-of-9 shooting from the field to JSU's 9-of-17 shooting from the field.
Jackson State took its largest lead of the third (51-30) with 3:12 remaining after a pair of free-throws by Miyah Crump. The Tigers couldn't recover down the stretch from the deficit as they fell, 75-50.
The Texas Southern offense was paced by Lawson as she pulled in 14 points on 5-of-12 shooting from the field.
Jackson State was led by Crump, as she tallied a game-high 17 points and four boards.
