Volleyball Pushes Nevada To The Brink In Tourney Finale

NORMAN, Okla. – TSU volleyball pushed Nevada to the brink with a pair of close games in a 3-0 loss on Saturday.

Set one was a preview of what was to come as TSU overcame a 9-4 deficit and closed to within 10-8. Nevada answered back with a 7-2 run for a 17-10 lead and eventually pushed it to 20-12 before TSU regrouped and went on a furious 9-3 surge which closed the gap to 23-21 after a service ace. Nevada added two scores to close out the match for a 25-21 win.

The Wolfpack led 9-3 early on in set two before a block by Taryn Stafford and Thalia Cordero Moreno drew TSU within 9-4. Nevada went on a 7-2 run for a 16-6 lead and never looked back as they won set two 25-10.

TSU jumped out to a 4-0 lead in set three and upped it to 7-5 but Nevada responded with a 6-2 run to lead 11-9. They would push its lead to 17-13 but two kills from Danielle Lilley closed the TSU gap to 17-16. Nevada answered with a 6-1 run to lead 23-17 but two kills from Cordero Moreno sparked a late surge which drew TSU within 24-23. Unfortunately, a late point by Nevada would end the match as they fell 25-23.

Lilley led TSU with six kills followed by five each from Cordero Moreno and Chenise Cook. Cook had three blocks while Dallas Balanay-Flores finished with 11 assists. Kaitlyn Scroggins led TSU defensively with 10 digs.
