Texas Southern swept a doubleheader from Arkansas-Pine Bluff Saturday, winning 11-0 and 10-2 in a pair of five-inning games.
In the first game, the Tigers (9-10, 6-0 SWAC) scored five runs in the second inning to take a commanding lead. They added six more in the third to put the game out of reach.Â
Daryn Haslam went 2-for-3 with two RBI. Mila Rodriguez had two doubles, and drove in two runs. Jordan McClain also had a hit and a stolen base, and drove in two runs. Crimson Davis was 1-for-2 with an RBI and a stolen base. Ashling Shahan went 1-for-3. Tigers starter Tierrah Williams worked the first three innings, allowing two hits and no walks, while striking out four in the win. Nora Rodriguez pitched the final two innings without allowing a base runner.
In the second game, Pine Bluff (2-19, 1-5) scored the game's first run in the first inning on Remington Martinez's RBI single. TSU responded with four runs in its half of the inning. Tevanae Tate ripped an in-side-the-park home run down the left field line to spot the Tigers a 4-1 lead.
The Golden Lions cut it to 4-2 in the third on Samaria Jackson's solo shot. But Texas Southern exploded for six runs in the bottom of the fifth to put the game away.
Haley Castro went 3-for-3 with a double. Julia Bilbao was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI. Mila Rodriguez went 2-for-3 with a double. Â Tamera McKnight had two hits, and drove in two runs. Shahan was 1-for-4 with an RBI.
The Tigers pounded 13 hits.
TSU starter Jazmine Gendorf (5-5) pitched all five innings, allowing two runs, six hits and a walk, while striking out four in the win.
Texas Southern will play a doubleheader at Incarnate Word 2 p.m. Tuesday.
