Softball Blanks Tennessee State With All-Around Performance

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – TSU scored early and often as a seven-run second inning broke the game open in a 9-0 win over Tennessee State on Friday.
 
Pamela Richardson opened the game with a leadoff walk, moved over on a wild pitch and grounder before scoring on Daryn Haslam's RBI for a 1-0 lead.
 
TSU broke the game open in the second as Tierrah Williams and Haley Castro drew back-to-back walks. Tevanae Tate drove in Williams on an RBI double followed by Castro off an error. Haslam drove in two more runs which was capped off by Tamera McKnight's three-run homer for an 8-0 lead.
 
TSU cruised the rest of the way as Ivy Shimkus singled home Williams for the game's final run in the fourth. Starter Naomi Reyes pitched the shutout as the contest was called after five innings due to the run-rule.
 
Reyes struck out seven in the shutout while Haslam finished 2-for-3 with three RBI along with a pair of hits from Tate. Williams and Richardson both scored twice while McKnight drove in three RBI.
 
TSU plays Tennessee State on Sunday at 11:30 a.m. followed by Texas A&M at 4:30 p.m.
