Volleyball Falls To UAPB Sunday Evening

Texas Southern dropped a 3-0 home match to Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Sunday.
 
Tied at 6-all in set one, UAPB went on a 5-0 run to lead 11-6 before a TSU run cut the deficit to 12-11 after a Dallas Balanay-Flores ace. Both teams continued to trade points as UAPB led 16-15 until a 5-0 run moved the momentum back to the Lions for a 21-15 lead. TSU fought back and narrowed the gap to 21-19 and 22-20 but UAPB scored twice to close out the set 25-21.
 
TSU held a 7-6 lead in set two until a 4-1 run by UAPB gave them a 10-7 lead. The Golden Lions wouldn't relinquish the lead as they closed out the second set 25-17. Set three was all UAPB as they stormed out to a 10-0 lead. TSU tried to make it interesting as Caitlyn Roland and Amber Johnson had several kills to spark the team as the deficit was down to 21-14. However, the gap was too much to overcome as UAPB closed out the match 25-15.
 
Danielle Lilley and Amber Johnson finished with six kills each while Chenise Cook and Kourtni Collier had two blocks. Dallas Balanay-Flores added nine assists along with nine digs from Nia Ford.
 
TSU is back in action Monday night against Grambling State at 6 p.m. inside the H&PE Arena.
