Tigers Wrap Up Homecoming With 37-2 Win Over Lincoln

Texas Southern capped off its homecoming festivities with a 37-2 win over Lincoln University (CA) Saturday inside Durley Stadium.

Both teams traded turnovers to begin the game as TSU fumbled at the Lincoln 16 but redeemed themselves as Derrick Tucker picked off a pass at the LU 28. TSU would take advantage as Andrew Body found Tavaris Achane for a 21-yard strike en route to a 7-0 lead after Curtis Falkenburg's PAT.

After the solid start, the game would slow to a trickle as TSU committed a costly error on a punt attempt which led to a safety and two points for Lincoln. The defense would force a turnover on downs after the safety and the offense was on the verge of scoring but another TSU fumble led to a Lincoln recovery at its own 5-yard line.

The defense once again held its ground by forcing another LU punt to open the second quarter and continued to make plays as they forced the Oaklanders to punt on its next two drives. TSU would finally get back on the board midway through the quarter as LaDarius Owens rushed for 26 yards to set up the next scoring drive. He had an apparent touchdown but it was nullified due to a holding call plus a false start led to a 33-yard field goal attempt for a 10-2 lead.

Derrick Tucker would ignite the stadium before halftime with a huge pick six as he took the Tigers into the locker room with a 17-2 lead.

The offense finally began to click as Jacorey Howard scored a 3-yard touchdown on the team's second possession of the half. TSU returned to the scoreboard to open the final quarter as Kevin Harris capped of a seven-play, 55-yard drive with a seven-yard run for a 31-7 lead. The Tigers would wrap up their scoring with 10:45 left as Eyan Means caught a 34-yard pass from Body for a 37-2 lead after the PAT.

TSU finished with 374 total yards while allowing 233. Body passed for 177 yards and two touchdowns on 10-of-21 passing while LaDarius Owens rushed for 81 yards on 11 attempts. Osby Mitchell had 59 yards on two receptions while Isaiah Bogerty had 11 tackles. Jacob Williams followed with nine stops and two tackles for loss.

TSU is back in action next Saturday at 6 p.m. against Jackson State inside PNC Stadium.
