HOUSTON- The Texas Southern Tigers were able to defeat the upset minded Alabama State Hornets 90-76 to advance to the 2018 SWAC Tournament semifinals on Tuesday night.
Donte Clark (pictured above) tallied a game high 30 points while fellow teammate Trae Jefferson contributed 24 points in what was a strong showing for the Tigers offensively.
Marquis Salmon racked up another double-double as he tallied 13 points and 13 rebounds. Derrick Bruce added 12 points rounding out the list of TSU double digit scorers.
Texas Southern led 38-37 at the break as Alabama State made a run late in the first half to cut the Tigers lead.
The second half was all TSU as the Tigers outscored ASU 52-39 in the games' final stanza to get the win in front of an energetic home crowd. For the game TSU shot 48 percent (25-52) from the field while limiting ASU to 40 percent (30-74).Â
TSU will move on to face Prairie View A&M in the SWAC Tournament semifinals on Friday, March 9 at 8:30 pm at Delmar Fieldhouse. The two teams split the season series with both winning at home. For more information please visit
