Bruce scores 21 points leading TSU to victory

HOUSTON- The Texas Southern Tigers defeated Huston-Tillotson 81-76 at home on Thursday night in front of an extremely energetic crowd at TSU's HPE Arena.

Fueled by 21 points off the bench by Derrick Bruce the Tigers had to dig deep late in the game to seal the win.

Bruce was able to bring the game to a 76-76 tie on a successful three point attempt with 1:15 remaining in regulation.

A Devocio Butler free throw put the Tigers ahead for good at 77-76 with under a minute left to play.

Texas Southern added four more points from the charity stripe to push the lead to five at 81-76 which would end up being the final score.

For the game Texas Southern shot 41.8 percent from the field while HTU shot 46.9 percent. Jeremy Combs (18), Trayvon Reed (14) and Justin Hopkins (11) rounded out the list of Texas Southern double-digit scorers.

Texas Southern will travel to face Arizona State of the Pac-12 in a game slated for Saturday, Dec. 1 at 8:30 pm.
