HOUSTON – Texas Southern's Eboni Mitchell posted 15 kills and figured in on five block assists as the Lady Tigers outlasted Southern in a five-set affair Monday afternoon.
Alexis Austin added 14 kills and 13 digs for the Lady Tigers, and Jada Hall added 11 kills. Breyanna York dished out 39 assists and collected 12 digs, and Alexis Praytor picked up a team-best 15 digs.
Southern's Shelby Jolly posted a team-high 13 kills, and Paige Hall added 11. Vaterra Calais put up 22 helpers with 13 digs, and Bailey Jefferson posted 19 scoops.
The Lady Jaguars managed to build a 2-1 lead entering the fourth frame, but gifted TSU a 4-0 lead to open the set after a gamut of miscues.
Southern was unable to recover from the slow start as the Lady Tigers tied the match. In the fifth, Texas Southern pulled away down the stretch, breaking open a 5-5 tie with a quick 4-1 spurt that carried the Lady Tigers to the win.
