SAN ANTONIO, Texas – In a preview of conference action, Texas Southern downed rival Prairie View A&M in four sets during the Incarnate Word Cardinal Classic.Â
TSU (3-7) was able to keep PVAMU at bay in the first set with timely bunch scoring, highlight by a 6-2 Lady Tigers run that staved off Prairie View (0-7) after the Lady Panthers had gotten within two.
In the next set, the Lady Panthers tied the match as – despite trailing for much of the period – they put together a 5-0 run to overcome a 22-20 deficit.
Texas Southern outlasted PVAMU in the next two sets to win it, thanks in part to building 17-10 and 17-9 leads early in the third and fourth stanzas, respectively.
Alexis Austin and Kali Fluke each notched 11 kills for Texas Southern, with Fluke adding nine blocks and six digs. Randi Hunter led Prairie View with 11 kills and four blocks, and Marissa Campbell added 10 kills.
Texas Southern's Kali Fluke was named to the All-Tournament Team after solid outings throughout the weekend.Â
