Lady Tigers sweep Prairie View A&M

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – Texas Southern completed the weekend sweep of Prairie View A&M, as the Lady Tigers defeated the Lady Panthers 11-9 and 6-4 in double-header action.

The Lady Tigers had to hold off a sixth-inning charge from PVAMU to win game one. After Texas Southern had built an 11-4 lead heading into the frame, Prairie View opened up the scoring with five runs in the stanza. Briana Knowles (2-for-5) hit a two-run single and Regan McIlvena (3-for-3, 4 RBI) followed with a three-run home run to get the Panthers within two.

However, Prairie View stranded the tying runs to end the inning and with runners on the corners in the seventh, hit consecutive fly outs to end the game.

Krystalani Yockman and Amber Garza each had big days at the plate for TSU, as Yockman went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a home run and five RBIs, and Garza was 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and five RBI.

Jasmine Fulmore (7-2) collected the win with a 5.1 inning-outing where she allowed nine hits, eight runs (six earned) and struck out five. Tyra Williams got the save for TSU. Olivia Lacewell (1-4) took the defeat for PVAMU (3.0 IP, 5 H, 5 R, 4 ER).

In game two, Texas Southern scored one run in three of the first four innings, but PVAMU claimed the lead with a four-run outing in the fifth. Knowles slapped a three-run home run in the frame, and Daneshia Hinton hit a solo home run afteward.

In the sixth, a three-run double by Haley Smith was enough to hand the Lady Tigers the lead for good. TSU had five players collect at least two hits in the contest.

Monica Cartwright took the loss, allowing 12 hits and six runs in a complete game. Lauren Rodriguez (9-7) got the win with 4.2 innings of work (4 H, 4 R, 4 K).
