VICTORIA, Texas – Texas Southern split a double-header at Houston-Victoria, dropping game one 2-1 and winning game two 4-0.
The Lady Tigers got their lone run in the third inning thanks to a Precious Alvizo RBI single that scored Destiny Chavarria. However, despite loading the bases with no outs TSU was unable to get any more than that from the inning.
Houston-Victoria's Aubri Hockenbury handed her side the lead with a two-run double in the bottom of the sixth, which proved to be the deciding hit.
Kacey Creel was 2-for-3 for TSU. Lauren Rodriguez (1-5) took the loss, going six innings and allowing two runs on five hits with three strikeouts.
Game two saw Tyra Williams and Jeniece Tillman combine for a five-hit shutout victory over Houston-Victoria.
Tiffany Marshall began the scoring with a sac fly in the second inning. Haley Smith delivered a RBI triple in the third inning, and Marissa Padron hit a two-run double in the sixth to cap the scoring.
Williams got the win, improving to 5-1 on the year after a five-inning outing where she allowed three hits and struck out three. Chanler Powell was 2-for-3 with a run scored.
