HOUSTON, Texas – Texas Southern kicked off the season with an 8-5 victory over Illinois-Chicago on Friday evening.
UIC scored the first two runs of the day, but TSU quickly regained the upper hand in the game, scoring all of their eight runs in the first five innings.
The Tigers' biggest inning came in the second as Olajide Oloruntimilehin hit a two-run homerun after Andre Moore doubled in Charles Guillory. Both Christian Sanchez and Oloruntimilehin collected three RBI in the victory.
Larry Romero (1-0) collected the victory after a five inning effort. Romero gave up four runs, four strike outs and hit two batters on six hits while on the mound. Seth Oliver entered the contest in the ninth and was credited with the save.
UIC's Jake Dahlberg (0-1) was credited with the loss after giving up all eight runs one nine hits, while striking out nine and walking one. Â
