Lady Tigers win third straight game

HOUSTON- The Texas Southern University Lady Tigers women's basketball team padded their lead in the Southwestern Athletic Conference as they knocked off the Jackson State Tigers by a score of 66-47. 
 
It was TSU's third win in a row and improved the team's record in conference to 10-1.  The Lady Tigers are now 14-7 overall and continued their dominance at home as they moved to 7-2 at the HPE Arena. 
           
The Lady Tigers looked determined to protect their home floor and their position of first place from the very onset of the game.  In the first half, they came out firing as they shot 41 percent from the field and made 10-11 free throws in the opening two quarters.  TSU also locked down on defense against the Lady Tigers in blue and white as they held JSU to just 21 points in the first half on 9-29 shooting.
           
TSU did not let up after halftime.  In the second half, they shot just under 46 percent from the field and knocked down 3-7 attempts from behind the three-point line.  TSU also continued to bring the intensity on the defensive side of the court in the second half, as they held JSU to under 35 percent from the field.  For the game, TSU shot 43.5 percent from the field and made 21-26 of their free throws. 
           
Guard Brianna Sidney led the way for TSU on the offensive side of the ball.  The senior from Brooklyn, New York put up 16 points and chipped in a trio of made three-pointers.  She added 6 rebounds.  Fellow seniors, forward Toni Cheadle and center Kianna Vines, contributed 13 points and 12 points respectively.  Vines was also a significant contributor on defense as she blocked 6 JSU shots. 
           
TSU will look to add to their lead in conference and notch a fourth victory in a row as they take on Grambling State at the HPE Arena on Monday night at 5:30 pm
