Lady Tigers win fifth straight game with victory over Alcorn State

HOUSTON- The Texas Southern Lady Tigers continued to show early promise this season as they dominated the visiting Lady Braves of Alcorn State 68-39 in front of the home crowd at the HPE Arena Monday afternoon. 

TSU remains undefeated in conference play (2-0), and is currently on a five-game winning streak. 

Jazzmin Parker led the Lady Tigers in scoring, turning in a 17 point performance on 7-of-20 shooting night from the field. 

Freshman Breasia McElrath chipped in with 14 points on 5-of-10 shooting and grabbed a team high 9 rebounds.

Texas Southern would never trail in the game as they jumped out to an early 10 point lead on a layup by freshman point guard Joyce Kennerson, making the score 18-8 Lady Tigers with just 19 seconds to play in the first period.  

The second period was more of the same, as  TSU would see their lead balloon to 21 on another layup, this time by Brianna Sidney, making the score 41-20 with just under two minutes to play in the first half. 

The second half was just a mere formality, as TSU's defensive pressure and bench play proved to be too much to handle for the visitors from Alcorn State. 

TSU outscored Alcorn State 28-9 off turnovers and their bench outscored Alcorn State's bench 22-0. 

Alcorn State's Norianna Haynes led all scorers with 21 points.

Next up for the Lady Tigers is a Saturday afternoon match up at the HPE Arena with the rival Lady Panthers of Prairie View A&M University.
