HOUSTON- The Texas Southern Lady Tigers continued to show early promise this season as they dominated the visiting Lady Braves of Alcorn State 68-39 in front of the home crowd at the HPE Arena Monday afternoon.Â
TSU remains undefeated in conference play (2-0), and is currently on a five-game winning streak.Â
Jazzmin Parker led the Lady Tigers in scoring, turning in a 17 point performance on 7-of-20 shooting night from the field.Â
Freshman Breasia McElrath chipped in with 14 points on 5-of-10 shooting and grabbed a team high 9 rebounds.
Texas Southern would never trail in the game as they jumped out to an early 10 point lead on a layup by freshman point guard Joyce Kennerson, making the score 18-8 Lady Tigers with just 19 seconds to play in the first period. Â
The second period was more of the same, as  TSU would see their lead balloon to 21 on another layup, this time by Brianna Sidney, making the score 41-20 with just under two minutes to play in the first half.Â
The second half was just a mere formality, as TSU's defensive pressure and bench play proved to be too much to handle for the visitors from Alcorn State.Â
TSU outscored Alcorn State 28-9 off turnovers and their bench outscored Alcorn State's bench 22-0.Â
Alcorn State's Norianna Haynes led all scorers with 21 points.
Next up for the Lady Tigers is a Saturday afternoon match up at the HPE Arena with the rival Lady Panthers of Prairie View A&M University.
