Tigers Baseball sweeps PVAMU winning game three 12-2

HOUSTON- The Texas Southern Tigers completed a three-game sweep of Prairie View A&M with a seven-inning, 12-2 win on Sunday at MacGregor Park.

Robert Pearson struck out 10 batters and scattered four hits over six innings of work to pick up the win for the frontrunners in the SWAC's West Division. 

Charles Philpott absorbed the loss, giving up seven earned runs over four innings of play.

The Tigers (16-11) improved to 10-2 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference's West Division standings, three and one-half games ahead of second-place Arkansas-Pine Bluff. The Panthers struck first with two runs in the top of the first inning. 

The Tigers, however, wasted no time getting back in the game, as they scored four runs in the bottom of the first. Texas Southern would score in five of the seven innings that were played, and Javier Valdez ended the game early with a two-run walk-off home run much to the delight of Tigers fans and supporters.

"We're hitting the ball really well," said TSU head coach Michael Robertson. "Our team has really started to gel over the course of the past few games and it's starting to show on both offense and defense."

Texas Southern will travel to face Arkansas-Pine Bluff this upcoming weekend in a pivotal SWAC West match-up.
