LAS VEGAS, Nev. – David Blanks keyed a huge second half for Texas Southern, who prevailed over UT-San Antonio 91-80 for its first victory of the season on Wednesday.
The Tigers went into the break trailing 42-35, but with 16:23 left in the game and TSU behind 50-43, Blanks took over as he outscored UT-San Antonio 10-2 over the next two minutes to put the Tigers ahead 53-52.
Chris Thomas, Brian Carey and Malcolm Riley combined for Texas Southern's next 11 points, and with the Roadrunners only mustering four points during the run, Texas Southern was ahead 64-56 at the end of the offensive spurt.
The Tigers led by no less than five points the rest of the way.
Blanks and Thomas each scored 23 points for the Tigers. Blanks added eight boards and three assists, and Thomas pulled down seven rebounds as well. Carey scored 13 points and dished out six assists from the bench. Riley chipped in 11 points.
