BATON ROUGE, La.- Alexus Johnson erupted for 25 points on an efficient 8-of-12 shooting night from the floor as the Texas Southern Lady Tigers moved to 2-0 in league play with a 62-48 over Southern on Monday.

The win marked Texas Southern's first win over Southern in nearly five years with the Lady Tigers last victory over the Jaguars occurring on January 6, 2010 at the HPE Arena.

Texas Southern led 37-30 at halftime and piled on 25 more points in the second half. TSU was physical inside all night claiming the tally on the boards by outrebounding SU 40-25.

"Big win for our program," said TSU head coach Johnetta Hayes-Perry.  "We played with a lot of intensity throughout the game and our efforts on the defensive end of the floor was tremendous."

A total of eight Lady Tigers registered points for Texas Southern with Ashley Ferguson chipping in eight points off the bench.

Johnson helped TSU get things going offensive early in the game as she tallied 15 first half points while missing only one shot from the field.
