HOUSTON- Madarious Gibbs and Chris Thomas had 13 points apiece as Texas Southern defeated Grambling State 60-51 on Saturday night, improving to 4-0 in Southwestern Athletic Conference play.
Tonnie Collier added 11 points for Texas Southern in the victory.
TSU broke out to an early lead and held a 34-17 halftime advantage. The Tigers were up 58-39 with 5:46 remaining after Collier hit a 3-point jumper.
Grambling was 18 of 39 (46.2 percent) from the floor. TSU was 18 of 51 (35.3 percent).
The Tigers were outstanding defensively for the majority of the night as they limited Grambling State's scoring opportunities throughout the game.
