A three-run fourth inning was the difference as TSU overcame an early deficit to claim a 4-2 softball win over St. Thomas on Tuesday at Memorial Park.
Two errors in the third led to an early 2-0 deficit as UST scored both runs with two outs. TSU would fight back in the fourth as Penelope Saenz hit a solo homer over the left field fence, followed by DaNia Durr's two-out single. Â Jordyn Talbert's RBI triple to the right field fence scored Durr to tie the game. Leadoff batter Katelynn Cooper drove in the go-ahead run as Talbert scored for a 3-2 lead.
With two outs in the sixth, a UST fielding error in center allowed Durr to score an insurance run as TSU led 4-2. Kristen Driver closed the game out in style with a scoreless seventh to earn the save.
Cooper led TSU with two hits and an RBI, while Melonie Guardiola earned the win after two innings of relief.
Due to weather concerns, TSU will travel to Grambling State for a doubleheader on Friday at 12 p.m., followed by a single game on Saturday.
