PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – TSU softball dropped a pair of games in contrasting fashions to rival Prairie View A&M on Saturday.
PVAMU 3, TSU 2
A two-run fourth inning by Prairie View A&M broke a tie game as they held TSU off 3-2 in the opener.
TSU moved ahead 1-0 after the second inning as Penelope Saenz doubled home Lanay Carr. Prairie View A&M knotted it at 1-all after the third on a sac fly and scored twice in the fourth for a 3-1 margin. TSU had an opportunity in the sixth with two outs to cut into the lead as Carr doubled and Saenz walked, but a fielder's choice ended the inning. The Tigers cut the lead to 3-2 with two outs in the seventh as Katelynn Cooper drove in Jade McQueen but the game would end on a groundout.
Paris Johnson led TSU with two hits while Kylie Wilson fell to 5-1 on the season as she struck two out.
PVAMU 18, TSU 2
Prairie View A&M scored early and often as TSU couldn't fight back en route to an 18-2 loss.
The Panthers scored three times in the first to lead 3-0 but TSU closed the gap to 3-2 after Karisma Garcia's two-run homer in the second. The Panthers answered with a four-run second and broke the game open with a seven-run third.
TSU only mustered three hits while starting pitcher Miranda Pena suffered her first loss on the season.
TSU is back in action Tuesday at home versus Lamar at 3 p.m.
