Softball Opens Alumni Weekend With 7-1 Win Over Alcorn State

TSU took control in the second inning and never looked back as they opened its latest SWAC series with a 7-1 win over Alcorn State at Memorial Park.

An error allowed ASU leadoff batter Sanai Salvant,  who singled to open the game, to score in the first for the early 1-0 lead. TSU loaded the bases in the bottom frame but couldn't capitalize.

TSU's offense began to heat on this first day of spring in the second as Jade McQueen drew a two-out walk and scored on Kylie Wilson's RBI triple. Marisa Perla drove in Wilson via a RBI single for a 2-1 lead.

Dania Durr welcomed the new ASU pitcher in the third with a leadoff double and scored on Karisma Garcia's sac fly to up the margin to 3-1. The score remained the same until the sixth as TSU broke the game open as Wilson drove in two runs along with RBI from Penelope Saenz and Durr.

Durr finished 3-for-4 with one run and an RBI. Wilson and Perla finished with two hits apiece while Wilson drove in a team-high three RBI. Zaria Turner struck out five while allowing only two hits in a complete game performance.
The series resumes Saturday at 12 p.m. as softball will welcome all its alumni back for the weekend.
