RUSTON, La. – Texas Southern captured its road series against Grambling State by virtue of a doubleheader split on Monday.
TSU 2, GRAMBLING 0
DaNia Durr and Marisa Perla both had an RBI in the fifth while Kaelani Randle pitched a complete game shutout in a 2-0 win on Monday.
With one out in the fifth, Durr hit a solo homer for a 1-0 lead. Kylee Wilson followed with a two-out bunt single and stole second before moving over to third after an error. Perla drove Wilson in for a 2-0 lead which would hold up as Randle struck out four while allowing only three hits.
Wilson finished 2-for-4 while Durr and Perla each had an RBI.
GRAMBLING STATE 9, TSU 0
A six-run third inning broke the game open as Grambling State claimed a 9-0 win.
GSU scored a run in the first as TSU had a chance to counter in the second but stranded runners on second and third. Grambling State went ahead 2-0 after the second and broke it open in the third with six runs.
Marisa Perla, Destiny Menchaca and Madison Battle had hits while Melonie Guardiola fell after two-thirds of an inning.
TSU is back in action on Friday at Southern in Baton Rouge, La.
