TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Junior Alyvia Brown was crowned the SWAC's individual champion as the TSU women's cross country team posted its best finish in a decade following a third-place finish at the 2025 SWAC Cross Country Championships on Monday.
TSU last medaled as a team during the 2015 cross country championship (third-place) as Brown's performance marked the best individual finish by a TSU runner since Mariah Stewart's fourth-place finish in 2018.
The favorite entering the race, Brown lived up to expectations as she claimed her first individual SWAC championship in cross country. Despite facing a weather delay which pushed the back the race several hours, the Renton, Wash. native finished the 5K course in a time of 18:17.8 while averaging 5:53 a mile en route to also earning SWAC Runner of the Year honors. Brown led for the first 2,700 meters but briefly slipped to second at the 2,800-meter mark. However, Brown took control at the 4,000-meter mark and never looked back for the win.
Freshman Stacy Guerrero also found her way to league honors in her SWAC debut as she completed the course in a time of 19:23.6 which was good for 10th place and a spot on the All-SWAC Second Team as she fought back in the final 1,000 meters to earn the final spot.
McKenna Duty finished 12th with a run of 19:34.8 followed by Katherine Canchola (14th) (19:42.4), Jessica Williams (21:21.4) and Dakota Gaston (22:30.5).
