Softball Drops Tourney Finale On Sunday

LAKE CHARLES, La. – A pair of three-run innings by McNeese State was the difference as TSU closed out tourney play with a 7-0 loss on Sunday.
 
McNeese State crossed home a run in the second to lead 1-0 but TSU had an opportunity to match in the third. Tamera McKnight led the inning off with a double but pinch runner Deanna Zuniga was thrown out at third on a fielder's choice. Tevanae Tate moved to second on a passed ball and advanced to third on Ja'Lynn Swiney's single but TSU couldn't kick in the door as back-to-back groundouts ended the inning.
 
With two outs in the bottom of the third, TSU was on the verge of getting out unscathed but an error allowed two runs to score followed by an RBI double for a 4-0 deficit. Both teams were scoreless until the sixth as McNeese scored three times to put the game out of reach.
 
TSU outhit McNeese State 7-6 as Julia Bilbao and McKnight had two hits each. Naomi Reyes (0-3) went the distance on the mound.
 
TSU is back in action at Houston Baptist on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
