MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Lady Tigers of Texas Southern University were knocked out of the winner's bracket of the Southwestern Athletic Conference softball tournament Friday after falling 6-3 to host Alabama State.

TSU will face in-state rival Prairie View A&M on Saturday at 10 a.m. in the loser's bracket final. The winner of that game will need to defeat Alabama State twice to win the 2018 SWAC Championship.

The Lady Hornets scored four runs in the top of the second inning to take a 4-0 lead, an advantage the hosts would not relinquish the rest the game.

Sierra Valdez knocked a two-RBI single for the Lady Tigers in the bottom of the fifth to cut the lead to 4-2. Freshman outfielder Tevanae Tate knocked her team-leading fourth home run of the season in the bottom of the seventh to make the score 6-3.

Justine Jean pitched a complete game to lead the Lady Hornets, the No. 3 team from the SWAC's East Division. Felicia Garza took the loss for TSU. Senior hurler Jasmin Fulmore pitched five and one-third innings of relief for the Lady Tigers.
